Progress with Project 10 Pan Round 1 - Update #1

Instead of doing a Monthly Favorites post I will update you guys on my Project 10 Pan since I've been using a handful of products consistently throughout the month in the hopes of finishing and tossing some items.

My Project 10 Pan has been going on for a little more than a month so far and I've been successful thus far at restraining myself from buying new makeup products. Unfortunately I've only really finished one product which is my Bath and Body Works Moonlight Path Body Lotion. Makeup is so difficult to finish even when I stick to the same few products everyday but I'm slowly working my way through my E.L.F Butternut quad.

There are a few skincare and miscellaneous products I'm running low on which I might add to my count of used up products. My samples of Clinique's moisturizers and Bare Minerals foundation are becoming products I use daily and I think I'll count them as half of a product :) The foundation is supposed to last ten uses but I guess I use really little because it's probably lasted me at least double that....

My eye makeup removers are also running low and I will count the two bottles I'm finishing up as one product as well ^^ I have a backup of my favorite Up&Up remover though so no need to buy any more! I'm not cheating!! I'm just making this project a little more accomplish-able :P

I have a feeling I will be breaking my ban in December to pick up some stuff from the drugstore just because I have coupons which will expire and I'm letting myself go a little since it is my birthday month ^^ I mentioned in my original Project 10 Pan post that I am allowed to purchase makeup with the giftcards I get for my birthday and Christmas as well :D

Doing Project 10 Pan is helping me save money but it's also renewed my interest in fashion. November has been my anti-shopping month but once December comes around I will be buying new clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories :D For the past few months my money has been spent mostly on makeup so my closet hasn't been updated as much. I'm currently revamping my closet, tossing and giving away clothes I no longer wear and replacing them with items I think I'll enjoy for a long time :) Project 10 Pan has also encouraged me to shop my stash and find items that are not loved as much as they should be. That doesn't mean I'm not tempted though :(

So I wrote most of the above a few days ago because I like to pre-write blog entries and save them as drafts until I decide it's time to post them. About that clothing ban... yesterday I was super tempted by a ton of Cyber Monday deals but resisted the majority of them. Then my boyfriend decides to order from Express and I'm helping him look for stuff. The coupon code was $40 off $150 but when he applied it, it took 50% off the total =O So I couldn't pass up the great deal and snagged a sweater and shirt for $35 total >.< I'm pretty sad I couldn't last the entire month but it was a good deal and I think I deserve it ^^ I'll show you guys what I got from Express and what damage I will be doing in the next few weeks really soon!

A Tutorial! Daytime Smokey Brown Eyes ;)

I finally managed to scrap together some time to take pictures and edit to show you guys a quick look that I've been replicating over and over recently :) For my first tutorial on this blog I wanted to show you guys something I actually wear which suits pretty much anyone's eye color and shape. The makeup I used is also super affordable and I think many people already have some of the products I used or very close substitutes or dupes. Let's get on with the tutorial!

These are all the products you need to create a super easy eye look for daytime! I also used a matte black shadow but forgot to add it to the picture.

First I do my face makeup but for the purposes of the tutorial (I was home the whole day and didn't want to put on an entire face of makeup for one tutorial) I just dabbed some under eye concealer. I primed my lids with Urban Decay Primer Potion to help my shadows last longer and adhere better to my skin. Also, I usually wear contacts and always when I wear makeup but for this tutorial I was too lazy and had to do this entire process pretty much blind :(

I applied a medium brown cream shadow onto my entire lid to make the powdered shadows apply better.

Pat the cream shadow with your fingers and blend up towards the browbone for a blended effect. Make sure you use a tiny amount because using too much will cause creasing.

This quad should probably look familiar if you follow my blog since it is part of my Project 10 Pan. I've been using it nearly everyday and it really is a nice product for $1.

Using a large shader brush, pack the color labeled 1 on the entire lid area. The brush I used is from EcoTools.

It doesn't have to be precise but try to stay below your crease or around that area.

Taking a fluffy blending brush, blend the lid color at the crease area until the color blends seamlessly with your skin. The brush I used is the Studio Tools Crease Brush and is $2 at Target :)

I then place the color labeled 2 in the quad on the area indicated by the dots using the crease brush. As you place the color in circular motions, blend the darker color with the lid shade. I find that with single eyelids or double lids with a small crease, adding a darker color close to the lashline helps make the eyes appear more round.

With a fluffy E.L.F $1 blending brush, I dusted the color labeled 1 on the inner corner of my eyes to brighten up the area. This doesn't have to be precise and the color can be brought up to the browbone as a highlight.

Taking an angled eyeliner brush by EcoTools, I apply the lid color to half of my lower lashline. This gives the illusion of bigger, rounder eyes.

I also brought some of the color into the outer crease to deepen the look. I also took some of the darker brown shade and added that to the outer third of my lower lashline to add depth.

Using black liner, line your eyes as you like. I rarely ever line my lower waterline or tightline because it's kinda freaky and I'm prone to eye infections. I usually use pencil or gel/cream liner :) For this tutorial I used Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Zero.

When I use pencil liner I usually like to set it with eyeshadow so I used NYX's black eyeshadow, which is matte, and ran over the pencil line a few times with E.L.F's angled liner brush. Using the brush I also winged out my liner a bit at the end.

Taking the whatever was leftover on the liner brush, I smudged the black along the lower lashline for some more color.

Curl your lashes and apply mascara to the upper and lower lashes and you're DONE!~ To vamp up this look for nighttime just add some falsies and you're set! Isn't this easy? This is my current go-to look when I want to look polished in under a few minutes. I love palettes because they save time for daily makeup application ^^

Did you guys like my first tutorial? The colors are actually darker in real life but my camera can't pick it up so well :(

Any requests? More pictures, less pictures? Any comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome and encouraged! :D

Makin' Me Blush :)

Most of my reviews and swatches to date have been of eyeshadows since they are my favorite beauty product to buy and collect. After countless posts on neutral eyeshadows I'm getting a bit tired of looking through my posts as well which is why this post will be a comparison of some of my favorite drugstore peach blushes :D

For the longest time my blush collection consisted of about three blushes simply because I rarely wore blush due to lack of time in the morning. My collection has since grown but it is still modest and most of the shades are really similar. These four are light to medium peach-y pink shades which are inexpensive and suitable for everyday use.

The E.L.F blushes are $3 each and even cheaper if you can snag them during a promotion. The Rimmel blush is available at your local drugstore for about $6 and I grabbed mine during a sale and used a coupon. Jane is a discontinued drugstore brand but you might find some at your local Rite Aid or Walgreens. Jane blushes cost around $4.

The above swatch was taken without flash and the shades are labeled at the bottom of the picture. There is currently only one color available for the E.L.F blusher and bronzer duo. Although the colors look quite similar in the pan, they are noticeably different when swatched.

Rimmel's Santa Rose has been called a dupe for the popular Nars' Orgasm but I'm not sure how accurate that statement is. The blush is super smooth and pigmented but not too dramatic so it is perfect for everyday wear. It is subtle and easy to build up to get the color you desire. I've been reaching for this blush the most this month. Jane's Blushing Earth Sheer was one of the first blushes I ever bought but sad to say it's one of the most neglected blushes. It is gorgeous, smooth, and the pigmentation is spectacular. However, it is super shimmery and makes my face look like a disco ball when applied as blush. This could work if you have flawless skin with small pores and if you are really fair. But for my oily, acne-prone skin I can only pull this off as a highlight in the cold months :(

For $3 the E.L.F blushes are fabulous :D The blush and bronzer duo is pigmented and after many, many uses there is barely a dip in the pan. The blush is not as smooth or finely milled as the Rimmel or Jane blushes but it packs more color and has pretty golden flecks in it. Candid Coral looks really similar to the blush in the duo but it has a fine golden shimmer throughout the blush which makes it differ drastically on the skin. Tell me that isn't amazing :) All of the blushes were packed on twice and blended with my finger in case you were wondering :)

Hope you guys enjoy this blush post and go out and try these blushes if you haven't already!! Drugstore and low end brands are really giving high end brands a run for their money. Although I love splurging on high end cosmetics, many times there are inexpensive gems right at the local drugstore. If you own these already, tell me what you think in the comments ^^
