Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color: 23 Shades of the Rainbow

Cream shadows are a product that I recommend for every makeup beginner. Not only are they usually great on their own as an all over wash of color but they can enhance powder shadows tenfold and create very complex shades. Shiseido came out with eight new shades of the Shimmering Cream Eye Color* lineup for their spring 2014 collection. I have four of them to share with you today.

Each plastic pot contains 6 grams of product (.21 ounces) and costs $25. I have BE217 (Yuba), BL722 (Nightfall), YE216 (Lemoncello) and BL620 (Esmaralda). I like the simple, lightweight packaging and think the price point is standard for a high end cream shadow. The clear packaging makes it easy to see which color you're reaching for if you have a few of these.

All of the shades I have are shimmery but not glittery. All the creams are ultra smooth and very light in texture. When rubbing your finger into the product, the cream glides onto your fingertips and feels very silky. This is the most lightweight cream shadow I have felt that does not verge into the mousse category. These claim to last all day without creasing which I can say is the case. However, I almost always use a clear eyeshadow base before any eyeshadow so I can't really say how great these are on their own.

Above are swatches that show the colors appear true to pan on the skin. I believe these might have been double layer swatches since the colors can be quite sheer in with just one swipe. I like using Yuba on it's own as an easy one-and-done look. Lemoncello looks pretty awful on my skintone so I ended up passing it on to a friend. I imagine it would look great under greens and golds. The two blues are gorgeous for summer as bases for powder eyeshadows.

Here I used Nightfall as a liner and set it with a matching navy powder eyeshadow. The cream stayed on for several hours and did not fade. It's not as budge-proof as a gel liner but it's not meant to be used as one so I can't fault it.

If you find some cream shadows too drying or pigmented, check out the Shiseido cream shadows. They are the smoothest ones I've tried to date and the neutral shades give a pretty wash of shimmer and color without being too over the top. With so many shades to choose from, you're bound to like at least one!
