It's hard to believe that the first (and last) time I tried a Lush Fresh Face Mask was three years ago to a T. I reviewed the Cupcake Fresh Face Mask exactly three years ago (minus a day) and while I hoped the popular mud mask would help reduce my acne, it actually broke me out and made my skin a lot worse. So you can see why I was a bit hesitant to try a face mask from Lush again. But I'm glad I took back five black pots to redeem a free face mask because I'm totally liking Catastrophe Cosmetic!
Lush makes nine fresh face masks which are preservative free and must be refrigerated so you cannot order them online. They are delivered weekly to the store and have a shelf life of around three weeks after they are made so you might want to ask your Lush shop when their shipment comes in. Each of the masks has a different concoction of ingredients that will suit different skin needs. The pots contain 2.1 ounces and cost $6.95 which translates to about 10 mask sessions for me. You only need to apply a thin layer of this mask so a little goes a long way.
Catastrophe Cosmetic is the blueberry and calamine mask meant to calm and cleanse the skin. It also contains moisturizing almond, rose, chamomile, and sweet wild orange oils. This is one of three of the vegan fresh face masks as well. The scent is a pleasant blueberry powdery smell and I don't find it too overpowering.
This mask dries quickly and Lush does not recommend you let the mask dry completely so you can't really do much with this mask on. I find that applying this mask for about five minutes is enough time for it to smooth my skin and leave it feeling more matte but not dry. I was surprised to find that this mask did help with redness and my skin looked a bit brighter and more healthy after each application. While these effects are temporary, it is a nice treat to balance and refresh your skin every couple of days.
I am very happy with Catastrophe Cosmetic and think it's a nice mask especially for the upcoming summer months. I would repurchase this mask in the future and have enough pots to get another free face mask. I have my eye on Brazened Honey next because it seems like a step up for cleansing oily skin and I definitely need that come June!
